1981 Recipient - Mr. Larry S. Roberts
Mr. Roberts graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law (J.D. 1969) and served as a public defender from 1969 to 1972. He was an associate with Angellis & Vimont from 1969 to 1972; Assistant Commonwealth Attorney from 1972 to 1977; Commonwealth Attorney from 1977 to 1985; and a partner with Fowler, Measle & Bell from 1985 to 1990.
In 1990, he started his own firm with Kenneth W. Smith and they are still in partnership. Their practice is totally focused on trial litigation, with primary emphasis upon the defense of physicians in medical negligence cases. Roberts maintains an active criminal defense practice.
In addition to the Kentucky Bar Association, he was a member of the Fayette County Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers of America, and the National District Attorneys Association. His was involved in many programs and projects on various levels and served on multiple local, state, and national committees.
Mr. Roberts received the Henry T. Duncan Award presented by the Fayette County Bar Association in 1980; he was the first recipient of the AHEPA Award in 1981; and he received the Optimist Cup presented by the Lexington Optimist Club in 1984.
Roberts married Kathy Winkel in 194. His daughter, Katie Thibault is an FBI agent in Boston, MA, and his son, Andy, is a professional baseball umpire and lives in Birmingham, AL.
