1990 Speaker - Dr. John T.A. Koumoulides

Professor of History, Ball State University

Dr. John T.A. Koumoulides attended Monclair State University, receiving his B.A. in 1960 and M.A. in 1961. From this point, he pursued his Ph.D. in Ancient Greece and Rome and 19th and 20th Century Greece at the University of Maryland, which he received in 1968. His current title is Professor of History Emeritus at Ball State University in Muncie, IN.

Dr. Koumoulides has been widely published in his field, authoring and editing titles such as:

  • Churches of Aghia (co-authored with Lazaros Derijiotis, 1975)
  • Perspectives in Byzantine History and Culture (co-edited with John Haldon,1985)
  • Greek Connections: Essays on Culture and Diplomacy (edited, 1986)
  • Cyprus in Transition 1960-1985 (edited, 1986)
  • The History and Treasures of the Monastery of Tatarna (co-authored with Lazaros Derijiotis and Stavroula Sdriola, 1991)
  • The Good Idea: Democracy in Ancient Greece (authored, 1995)
  • Greece: The Legacy (edited and contributed, 1998)
  • Cyprus: The Legacy (edited and contributed, 1999)
  • Cyprus 1900-2000: “Footprints on the Sands of Time” (edited, 2002)

He was also named a Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars between January 2003 and December 2005.

Dr. Koumoulides currently teaches courses such as Byzantine Civilization, Modern Greek Language, and seminars and conferences on Greek History, as well as the History of Cyprus.
